Datuk Ab Khalil Ab Hamid graduated with a Bachelor in Economics (Hons) degree in Rural Development in 1975. He holds a Masters in Economic Finance and Economic Development from University of Western Michigan, USA. He started his career as an Assistant Director, Economic Planning Unit, Prime Ministerís Department from 1975 to 1978 and subsequently as Assistant Secretary with the Ministry of Health till 1983.
In 1984, Datuk Ab. Khalil was attached to Harison & Crossfield (M) Sdn Bhd.† He was Senior Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Finance (1985 to 1986), Principal Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Communication & Multimedia (1986 to 1996), Principal Assistant Director, Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) (1997 to 1998), Negeri Sembilan State Secretary/Director, State Economic Planning Unit, Negeri Sembilan (from 1999 till 2001), Director of ASEAN, MITI and Director, Commercial Services, MITI (2001 to 2003),† Malacca State Financial Officer (2003-2004),† Director of Budget, Ministry of Finance (2004-2006) and Deputy Director General of the Public Services Department (Development) from January 2006 to May 2007. He was on the Board of Directors of UDA Holdings Berhad. Currently, he sits on the Board of Employee Provident Fund, Rangkaian Hotel Sri Malaysia and Johor Corporation.
